THIS WEEK // Happy Monday, guys! I’ve actually had such a productive Monday, I love it. There’s something about a new week and a new month that makes me excited. Anyways, I thought I would do another quick check-in whilst my next post is on it’s way. This week will consist of the usual – renovations, study and blogging. In addition, I am going to sneak in a little time to work on one of my little projects; I might even be able to share it with you guys this week, so stay tuned!
UNI// Uni has now officially started back and it’s mixed emotions – on one hand I’m so excited about the fact that it’s my last semester in my degree but on the other hand I’m not looking forward to the long days of study and assessment. I’ve been back for one week and I already have assessment due – why?! However, I am happy about the fact that there is quite a lot of nutrition based subjects this semester (as opposed to just straight chemistry or biology) so I should have lots to share with you guys over the next couple of months. Yay!
HEALTH // So, this weekend that just passed consisted of Ryan and I having a Game of Thrones marathon because neither of us had ever watched it before (crazy, I know) and what came with it was a whole lot of indulging. Like, a whole lot. By the end of the weekend I noticed that I started to feel a little bad about it. And then I remembered to practice what I preach. So, if you have also indulged a little too much over the weekend, here’s a pep talk… It’s what you do most days that count; a weekend of indulgence will not undo all your hard work. A healthy mindset towards food is just as important as the food you eat. I had a great weekend with the people I love and that’s all that matters. Now that the weekend’s over I can get back to a healthier routine – no biggie!
Also, in the last couple of months I’ve been having some issues with my skin. I’ve been getting quite a lot of breakouts – specifically cysts which alway pop up on my chin. A lot of the time breakouts mean that there’s something going on within the body that needs attention. Being a soon-to-be nutritionist/dietitian, my diet is usually pretty healthy (except this past weekend ha!), however I have a sneaking suspicion that I may not be tolerating dairy all too well. So, I’m going to reduce my dairy intake for a couple of weeks and see if that clears it all up (I’ll keep you updated for those of you that have the same issue). But, the reason I’m even bringing this up is because I was talking to my uni friend about how so many people assume cutting out food groups will clear their skin without even considering their lifestyle and diet as a whole. If you simply try to cut out things like diary or gluten yet consistently eat junk food then chances are those restrictions won’t help the issue. Instead, perhaps try a more holistic approach like eating a diet rich in whole foods, drinking enough water, exercising, managing stress and getting enough sleep. Then, if you’re like me and you’re still finding it an issue, you can look at other options. Just always remember that there’s no quick fix solutions, only sustainable lifestyle changes 🙂
BEAUTY // So last month I tried something a little bit different – eyelash extensions. I’m almost certain I’ve been living under a rock my entire life, as I only knew these were a thing a couple of months ago. I just assumed everyone had pretty eyelashes or wore fake lashes ha! When I first got them applied, I wasn’t entirely sure I liked them, but after the initial shock passed I loved them. They really do make your eyes stand out and they look great in photos. Well, that was until they all fell out of one eye and not in the other so I was left with one eyelid full of short lashes and the other eyelid full of long lashes – not cute. Lol. However, in the end, as pretty as they looked they weren’t worth the price tag for me. But, I’m happy to do a more detailed blog post about my experience if any of you are interested!
